Kanaka Bar created SWRI for the sole purpose of working on the development of a small scale hydro project on the year round creek that flows just South of the community. The opportunity for development has been available since 1987 and it was not until 2011 that Kanaka began to actually explore the opportunity in greater detail.
Working in partnership with Green Valley Power, a new partnership entity known as Siwash Watershed Resources Limited Partnership (or SWRLP) have gone on to secure a water license and a license to occupy land (LOO) and the partners are currently working with BC Hydro to complete a system impact study (SIS) and complete an Electricity Purchase Agreement (EPA). It is hoped that the project will be completed in Spring of 2018.
Where appropriate, SWRLP will contract with KLH and KBES for machinery, tools and personnel to complete the Siwash projects development stage, build the project itself and then assist with operations.
