On November 24, 2018, the Government of BC announced its plan to develop affordable housing project in 30 Indigenous communities across the province. Kanaka Bar was one of these communities and will be collaborating with the government and its agencies to develop affordable housing in the Fraser Canyon region. This will be inclusive housing based on needs assessment and income analysis of interested applicants.
First Site Plan 2017
As of December, we have developed an initial concept plan, which was also submitted as part of our application to the province. That said, we are currently contemplating to involve federal government and expand our project scope and size, in order to accommodate the demand of affordable housing at Kanaka Bar. We are very optimistic that we will gather support from various partners for this project and be able to design, build and operate a truly sustainable and self-sufficient affodable housing project at Lower Kanaka.
